see you coming into view

Take a listen to this track. Hear that rhythm guitar, straight eighths, muted? And the electronic percussion? Even the chord sequence and staccato keyboard backing in the second half of the verse? And then in the chorus, the keyboard doubling the vocal line? In a lot of ways, this is quite similar to the sound of the first couple of Cars records.

Except it’s from 1967 – Tommy James & the Shondells’ “Mirage.”

It is hard to beat the collaboration of Tommy James with arrangements by Jim Wisner! Dale Smith

  2. The “electronic percussion” is actually a vibraslap (which sounds electronic, not to mention kinky, but isn’t).

Which doesn’t detract from your quite accurate comparison at all.
